I just love Book Depository. You can't beat their prices on books and they have international free shipping! I have bought so many books from them, the classic Elizabeth Gaskell's North & South was only $4.48 with free shipping from the UK! I don't know how they do it!
My latest purchase was from their 24 hours flash sale (they run this about 2-3 times a year), where every hour they would put up a book drastically reduced - lots of fun. The book I bought was the hardcover "All About Me: A Christmas Book", which costs anywhere up to $81.99 in Australian online stores but I got it for $8.62!
For every order (or most) they also include a nice unique Book Depository bookmark, a very nice touch!
They send an email letting you know when your book has dispatched (usually within 24 hrs), and shipping is relatively quick - about 1-2 weeks.
Highly highly recommended for book lovers or for buying gifts for family/friends who may not live in the same town as you!
If you're a traditional book reader book depository is THE source for paper books. Since the books come from the UK it does take a few weeks to arrive. I've never had a problem ordering books from them and the books always arrive in perfect condition.
I absolutely love living in Australia, but I hate paying through the nose for books.
Now there's no need to - The Book Depository (.com and it's .co.uk site) offer an affordable alternative.
The range of books they offer is excellent. Shipping is free (on everything) and always efficient.
In this particular order I found a recipe book I liked in a local book store (Supercharged Food by Lee Holmes) - it was selling for $35. When I got home I found it at The Book Depository for just over $18 including delivery.
The book was shipped within 2 days of my order and it arrived (from the UK) in under a week. You've got to be happy with that.
It was such good value and such a good experience I told my friends about the book through the site too.
Keep an eye out for their 24 hour sales - you can pick up some great bargains.
astupiddvdcase would shop at Book Depository again.
One of the best places for books
BD offers such a large range of books at a very reasonable price.
To be honest, it was one of the first places where Australians could buy books at overseas prices back when it was first launched, and probably still one of the few.
I have ordered a few paperbacks and a hardcover and all of them arrived in good condition but not without a few wear and tear around a few of the paperbacks though.
Shipping is free to Australia, but it does take a week or two since its based in the UK i believe. But for such reasonable prices you shouldn't complain much.
The Book Depository has a well-deserved reputation for their tremendous range and low prices, and my experience was definitely consistent with this. Both the items I bought (a 'For Dummies' instructional and a modern classic novel) were sold at less than half the price charged at my local chain bookstore! There's a huge range of different items available, meaning you can often choose an edition that's in your price range or a cover to suit your existing collection, as well as having access to more variety than can be stocked by a retail store or smaller online outlet.
Shipping is free, and while it does take somewhere between a few days and a few weeks for your items to arrive, the fact that there is no charge for this postage makes it great value for money when you're not in a hurry to receive your items. I did have an issue with items being damaged in the post with a past transaction, but this time around the books were in perfect condition when they arrived.
The only downside to this particular transaction was that one of the books I ordered turned out not to be in stock or production any more. While the amount I paid for it was refunded within five days of my initial purchase, it would have been nice to know at the time of order. They were quick to notify me of the error, though, and a refund to my Paypal account was promptly given.
Overall, while I do love the experience of purchasing books from a brick-and-mortar store, The Book Depository's expansive range and low prices keep me coming back again and again!
Many textbooks, novels and information books were purchased for under $100 evidently portraying how cheap the prices are on Book Depository. The shipping took less than a week which was excellent considering the amount of books purchased. It has a great variety of books online, even those which were difficult to find in famous stores such as Dymocks.
So I had specifically purchased 'Sarah's Key', a novel, as a gift for a friend. I was really impressed, fast delivery ( 8 working days) and the book was in great condition. It was also more convenient, because Im finding it harder to find real life book stores nowadays. It was also much cheaper than buying it from a real life store. Definitely worth checking it out!
