Poor stock management systems and refund process
Ordered a powerbank and a pair of headphones from Dick Smith
I arranged for pick up in store at my closest store.
After a few days after my order, i was given a call and told that my headphones were on backorder for up to 6 weeks (even though the store i had selected for pick up had stated they were in stock). My powerbank was available for pickup.
I decided to ask for a refund for the headphones as 6 weeks was too long for me to wait. As i had paid via paypal, i was told that it would also take 6 weeks for their headoffice to process the refund.
A bit of a joke. I picked up my powerbank and i'm currently still waiting for my paypal refund to be processed...
Even though this buying experience was exceptionally poor, so long as the right product and price, i'd still buy from Dick Smith again

Poor ordering systems, made up for by helpful staff
Ordered a camera case for pick up at a nearby store.
My order was confirmed the same day of the order.
After waiting a week of not being contacted or any ready for pick up notification, I decided to visit the store to check.
Turned out that they had not even processed my order, though the staff did arrange it in store.
Somewhat frustrating, but not sure where the issue lay - with the staff, or their ordering system. I'll give the staff the benefit of the doubt and blame the system.
Hopefully this doesn't occur too frequently as it will put me off shopping from dick smith more frequently, but as the staff were helpful, I'll most likely buy from them again.

Often quicker to buy in store than Click n Collect and wait and wait...
Ordered a screw driver kit set for pick up at my local store.
i received an email confirming my order, with a statement to call the store if my order was not prepared after 24 hours.
having purchased using click and collect before, i knew that a 24 hour turnaround time was very, very optimistic, so i decided to wait (i was in no rush). 2 weeks later, i received an email stating that my order was ready for pick up.
i went in store a few days later and finally collected my item.
i'm not sure why the orders take so long to be processed, nor where the delays lie - is it payment confirmation, staff being overwhelmed and overworked instore & dealing with online orders at the same time? service also varies greatly between stores.
i had physically visited the store i was expecting my click and collect item from, and saw that they had plenty of stock available (on the counter no less), but saw that they were very busy (overwhelmed) so did not bother them
If you're happy to buy at a good price and even happier to wait (often) extended periods of time for your order, and enjoy hit & miss (more miss than hit) service, then i'm happy to recommend Dick Smith as a place to purchase. Otherwise, i'd avoid them

Smooth sailing
I ordered a battery for my car keys two nights ago and it was ready to pick up from instore the next day. So I headed on over to my nearest store to pick it up.
It was so simple, I walked up to the counter, asked to pick up my order and in about 2 minutes I left with battery in hand. It was my first click and collect experience and I'd gladly do it again!

Use Click and Collect
Ordered Apple Macbook Air. They have alot of offers such as spend $X get $Y off but tend to have a lot of exclusions. Had a promo code for 15% off Apple laptops which I used.
Website is easy to use. Used the Click and Collect function and it was ready for collection within 24hours. Need photo I.D. to collect items above $100 and easy straightforward process for me.
I did have problems previously when ordering a Samsung Note 4 where my order was cancelled because they could not verify my credit card details. Paid via Paypal instead.
Online order with credit card cancelled and forced to use PayPal, at the end it was oversold.
DO NOT RISK YOUR PERSONAL DATA WITH THEM - There are much better online retailers than this one. Lesson learnt for me: never again.
I put my order for a Toshiba following their EOFY misleading online publicity, but the laptops were oversold and they cancelled it next day arguing "Credit Card payment issues" and force you to re-do the transaction only via PayPal, no other options given.
I'm usually very understanding of delays and problems that may arise when buying online. But in this case I'm not going to be so much: First and very last time I buy online with Dick Smith.
Their call center is unable to do anything else than reading from a screen and only works until 3pm WA time. My emails are still unanswered. I'm very surprised people still buying from them.
I ordered a Kindle Paperwhite from Dick Smith because they were having one of their sales so it was down to $115 instead of ~$160. They were out of stock in the stores near me so I had to pay for shipping as well (as opposed to click and collect which I have used before and really liked).
I will note that the cases for the Kindles seemed to have gone up on the same day that the Kindles themselves were cheaper so I didn't get one (and they have since gone back to normal) but that's something to look out for.
I received a shipping notification with tracking number the next day, and it arrived the morning afterwards nicely packaged and in good condition.
