I purchased a product, weight scales, for 630 dollars. My card details were taken, and the order apparently processed, even getting the "thank you" email and the time I can expect arrival. I waited out the two-month period and then contacted them. They tell me that they had sent the following email,
"To protect your security and as a routine check of new customers we would like to request that you send a scanned copy of a utility bill with your name and address as proof of delivery address."
Perhaps I did indeed miss this email. I am told they did not charge my card. But the email was sent after previous emails that my product was on its way, and that it would arrive by a certain date. This is a level of bureaucracy that is ridiculous. I order even more expensive items than this from the USA and the UK, sometime getting it within a week (UPS) and with no problems whatsoever. A copy of my utility bill? No one else, after years of ordering has ever asked this, and then done so AFTER the order has apparently been processed. I guess this is an Australian thing, sadly, where so many businesses, due to lack of competition, simply do not provide a good service, and do not care if you give them your business or not. I have never encountered such wasteful procedures before. Again, I have ordered bigger items, had it delivered quickly, and they just took my money. The procedure that is laid out by Fishpond in Australia is so onerous and even insulting, that one would imagine this was a government agency doing a criminal check. Unbelievable. No wonder our economy is going to hell in a hand basket, with businesses like this that simply do not take your money, nor do they take a reasonable risk, like other businesses in other countries. Pitiful.
I ordered a product from fishpond.com.au as a gift and took advantage of their offer to send a e-announcement to the recipient about their impending gift. A day or two later I received a thank you note from my friend. The next day I received a message from fishpond saying that they were cancelling the order b/c the product was not available. I contacted them to suggest that they do not send out the gift announcement until they are sure they can deliver the product. I was very disappointed with the attitude of the customer relations team, which basically was "too bade - it's all covered in the fine print about terms and conditions of sale". OK, if Fishpond doesn't care about its customers, I will look for a company that does.
I like Fishpond because it offers free shipping, they are able to order a tooth creme I use from Overseas and deliver it within 8-10 working days. The website is a little cluttered to use but the prices make up for that small inconvenience. I would recommend Fishpond for harder to find items.
I bought some personal items and a wooden spice rack from Fishpond.com.
These shipped from the UK, and the postage was super slow to initiate - I kept checking the order and it would say that they were 'on their way to our warehouse': not even shipped yet!
But almost a month later, my order arrived and the spice rack is nicer than anything we looked at in stores or on ebay.
So, if you're not in a hurry, I definitely recommend Fishpond. Some things are easy to wait for and this order was worth it!
ordered a $350 purchase a month ago. Has not moved from LA according to tracking for nearly 3 weeks. After many emails trying to get some service from fishpond, all I got was "wait till the date range" from them. Now out of the date range and they are telling me I have to wait ANOTHER 8 business days and then it takes 1-3 business days after that to process a claim. Have also contacted consumer affairs. WORST SITE AND WORST SERVICE. Clearly no phone number available for a reason! Have since had to purchase another gift and they expect me to wait ANOTHER 3 weeks for a $350 refund?
I discovered Fishpond when a sports powder I normally buy was no longer available locally. I was pleased to see they offer Free Shipping but noticed the prices a little higher and it ships from a US supplier. The website ordering process was easy but I had to sign up as a member. I was regularly updated via email as to the status of order and I received the item 12 business days after ordering. I would recommend for hard to source items but I wouldn't recommend if you need something quickly.
