I placed an order with the Real Food Revolution co-op after I saw them mentioned on Facebook and looked into their website and liked the look of what they do.
Their website lists an enormous range of products, including fruit and vegetable and household items.
As this was my first order, I decided to order a few fruits and vegetables and some pantry/household items to test the waters and see how I went.
The website is easy to use and order from and I was able to select hub pick up for my order at a cost of $3. Much to my delight, when I went to collect my order I discovered that my local hub is very close to my house and easily on my way home from work on a Friday. The hub is so close that I would mot bother with the additional cost of delivery for my orders.
The pantry/household items that I ordered were all as I had expected (baking cups, pegs, coconut water). I wasn't quite so sure about the fruit and vegetables. I must admit that I have a very high standard when it comes to fresh produce, I live very close to two outstanding greengrocers and have been very spoilt in recent years.
I ordered tomatoes, celery, peaches and capsicum in this order. The tomatoes were fine, as was the celery, the peaches were smaller than I would get from my greengrocer but the cost was fair in comparison. The capsicum was a let down though, although it must be acknowledged that the capsicum was much cheaper than when I pay at my local greengrocer.
If I was someone who bought fresh produce from my local large supermarket, I would no doubt have considered the fresh produce to be fine, however as I have such high standards, I was a bit unsure about my future orders.
I would order from Real Food Revolution again, but I would proceed with caution when it came to capsicum.
I previously reviewed Real Food Revolution after my first order and I have since ordered from them each week, 3 orders all up. This review is a summary of those 3 orders.
I was a bit uncertain about the fresh produce from Real Food Revolution after my first order, but I have been happier with my more recent orders.
I have ordered a large variety of items over my last 3 orders, pegs, white vinegar, eggs, popping corn, cotton buds, frozen fruit, coconut yogurt and a variety of fresh produce.
The pantry, household and refrigerated items have all been as I would expect. The cold items are especially well packed, either in an esky with an ice block or wrapped in ice and bubble wrap.
The fresh produce has been good, even some red capsicum that I bought after seeing that it was $4/kilo. Although I had previously been unhappy with the capsicum I had received I was convinced to give it another go at that price. It needed to be cooked quickly, but I was happy with it for that price. Things like tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, peaches and avocados last fine for a week or more, others need using within a few days of ordering.
There have been a few times that they have been out of stock of items I have ordered, in which case they have put a note in my box and they have refunded my Paypal account, without prompting, the following week.
The orders are well packed and the $3 hub pick up fee is a very small price to pay for the convenience of ordering this way. I especially like that the shopping cart on their website doesn't time out, so I just add to it during the week as I think of things I need.
I will definitely continue to order from Real Food Revolution. They have very competitive pricing, especially if you are buying what is in season and on special and I really enjoy the convenience of picking up my order on my way home from work on a Friday and having what I need in the house ready for the weekend, rather than needing to get out to the shops first thing Saturday morning before I can start cooking.
I placed quite a large order with Real Food Revolution as they had trays of mangoes and 10kg boxes of saucing tomatoes on special with this order.
I also ordered some other items, pineapples, kale, zucchini, capsicum and brown sugar. The prices were comparable or cheaper to what I would pay at my local fruit and veggie store and the quality of the produce was great. The mangoes were divine and the tomatoes were amazing, especially for saucing tomatoes.
Picking it up from my local hub was easy and was an additional cost of $3 to my order.
I was really very happy with this order.
I will order from Real Food Revolution again and would recommend them to others.
